Frequently
Asked Questions
What types of heart conditions do you manage at Novena Heart Centre?
At Novena Heart Centre, we provide comprehensive and personalised care across the full spectrum of cardiovascular disease. Our services range from preventive cardiology and cardiovascular risk optimisation—such as the management of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes—to the evaluation of cardiac symptoms, including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, and abnormal findings detected during health screening.
We also specialise in the diagnosis and management of complex cardiac conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, heart rhythm disorders, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and congenital heart disease.
Is a referral required to make an appointment?
A referral is not required, and we welcome both self-referred patients and those referred by other healthcare professionals. To facilitate a thorough and efficient consultation, we encourage patients to bring any relevant medical records, including prior test results, ECGs, or imaging reports.
If you have been referred by another doctor, please bring the referral letter to enable seamless coordination of care.
What should I prepare for my first consultation?
To ensure a smooth and comprehensive consultation, please bring:
- Identification card or passport (for verification purposes)
- Relevant medical records and investigation reports (e.g. ECGs, stress tests, imaging studies, laboratory results)
- A list of current medications, including dosage and frequency
- Health insurance or financing documents, if applicable
Having this information allows our specialists to gain a complete understanding of your medical history and helps avoid unnecessary repeat investigations.
Patient amenities: For patients undergoing stress testing, complimentary amenities are available, including clean shirts, shorts, towels, socks, and running shoes.
What diagnostic tests and procedures are available at Novena Heart Centre?

Do you accept walk-in or emergency consultations?
We accept walk-in consultations during clinic operating hours, subject to availability. To minimise waiting times and allow dedicated time for consultation and investigations, we recommend scheduling an appointment in advance.
For medical emergencies – such as severe or persistent chest pain, sudden breathlessness, or collapse – please call 995 or proceed immediately to the nearest emergency department to ensure prompt emergency care.
Do you care for international patients?
Yes. Novena Heart Centre has extensive experience in caring for both local and international patients. We provide coordinated and seamless care, including assistance with medical documentation, continuity of treatment, and communication with overseas healthcare providers. Language support can be arranged where required.
What insurance plans are accepted?
Patients intending to use insurance coverage are encouraged to bring the relevant documentation to their appointment. Insurance details may also be emailed to us in advance to facilitate administrative arrangements.
Coverage for cardiac consultations, investigations, and treatments varies between insurance plans. We recommend checking with your insurer regarding your specific benefits.
Do you provide follow-up care after cardiac procedures or surgery?
Yes. We provide structured and comprehensive follow-up care following cardiac treatment. This includes regular specialist reviews, medication optimisation, lifestyle and rehabilitation guidance, and long-term cardiac surveillance.
Can I seek a second opinion at Novena Heart Centre?
Certainly. We welcome patients seeking a second opinion regarding their diagnosis, investigation strategy, or treatment options. Whether for a newly diagnosed condition or following care elsewhere, our specialists provide an independent, thorough, and objective assessment. Please bring all relevant medical records for review.
